Model Inputs \(\rightarrow\) Demographic Data \(\rightarrow\) Migration
To account for international and internal (e.g. rural to urban) migration, we estimated post-stratification weights (via raking) by cycle. This approach allows us to re-weight our simulated estimates over time to reflect changes in the population not already explicitly accounted for in the model (e.g., migration, differential background mortality, etc). Cycle-specific weights were calculated for 6 demographic groups within each country: Urban/Rural location by 3 Education Levels.
Raking was performed among women aged 25-49 to account for the educational attainment projections. The weights were then re-scaled to adjust the population of women aged 15-49 to match the sampled UN population projections.
